Hello, my name is Sarah McNaughton and I’m very excited to be President of the Rotary Club of Westbourne ‘The club with attitude’. I’ve only been a Rotarian for a few years but very quickly came to realize that it was one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.
I am a very enthusiastic person who enjoys life to the full and because of my “can do” attitude I have gained many fantastic and diverse experiences with Rotary so far, ranging from a gentle walk along part of the South West Coast path for ‘Wateraid’, to skydiving out of a plane at 15,000ft!
My most amazing experience so far though was taking part in a project in a remote area of the Gambia, where I learnt all sorts of skills such as plumbing and bricklaying. But most importantly I got to meet some amazing people and learnt firsthand about rural life in Africa, something I would never have experienced without Rotary.
Although our club is small, we are very active and achieve a great deal. We support many local charities and also support various projects and charities overseas as well. We are now going into our 16th year as a club and are actively seeking other like minded people to join us. This will only strengthen our ideals and goals for the forthcoming year.
Rotary is also a social organization and our calendar is just as diverse as our fundraising ideas! During the coming year, I am planning many social and sporting events such as a weekend trip to France, a crazy Mad March Meal, theatre trips and lots more.
Does any of this appeal to you? Do you want to make a difference in your community as well as experience some of the above? Then come and join us.(Skydiving is optional – having fun is compulsory!)
I look forward to meeting you
Sarah McNaughton
President 2010-2011
